Documents required for customs clearance
Have these ready before your cargo arrives so nothing holds up clearance at the border or port of entry.
The clearance checklist
- Commercial invoice showing value, quantity and description of the goods
- Packing list matching the invoice line items
- Certificate of origin
- Bill of lading, waybill or airway bill for the shipment
- Import declaration form
- Importer's Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- Permits or licences for restricted or regulated goods, where applicable
Tips to avoid delays
Incomplete or inconsistent paperwork is the most common cause of clearance delays. Make sure the description, quantities and values on the invoice, packing list and transport document agree with each other, and send copies to us before the cargo departs so we can flag gaps while there is still time to fix them.
Not sure what applies?
Requirements vary by cargo type, mode of transport and entry point. Send us your shipment details and we will confirm exactly what you need. For border-specific guidance, see clearance at Nimule/Elegu, or read how customs clearing works.
Ready to clear your cargo?
Send your shipment details and we will reply with a clear breakdown of duties, fees and next steps, usually within one business day.
